Croup

What you need to know:

This relatively common condition in children should be treated as bronchitis, with the addition of steam. A few generations ago a croup kettle was found in every home. This was just a kettle filled with water and left to boil on a stove in the child’s bedroom. It created a warm, moist atmosphere, which eased the child’s breathing.

You can simulate this by filling the bath with hot water and closing all the doors and windows.
