Nail Disorders

What you need to know:

This broad section of disorders is rarely serious and can be divided into three sections, each with their own simple natural remedies:
  • Fungal infections: Crush two cloves of Garlic into a bowl of warm water. Add two tablespoons of cider vinegar. Soak the affected area in the bowl for at least five minutes twice a day. The young sufferer also needs to eat lots of Garlic and take a Garlic pill every day. And you need to be patient. Fungal infections can take up to six months to improve
  • Brittle nails: Soak the nails in warm olive oil at least twice a week. The oil shouldn’t be too hot - heat it by standing a jug in a saucepan of hot water. The oil can be re-used - but not on salads, of course
  • Soft nails: This isn’t a sign of calcium deficiency as some people believe, but white specks on soft nails may be caused by a lack of zinc, so try giving the youngster a supplement. Extra Magnesium may also help
