Nosebleeds

What you need to know:

If bleeding is persistent, it’s essential that you consult your doctor or get to hospital, particularly if it’s a child or baby whose nose is bleeding. For occasional non-serious bleeds, however, there are several natural remedies.

The most useful Herbs:

  • Yarrow - insert a leaf into the nostril until a clot forms
  • Shepherd’s purse
  • Witch hazel
  • Lady’s mantle
  • Agrimony
For the last four herbs, soak a swab of cotton wool in tincture of the herb and insert into the nostril.

Homoeopathy

The most helpful homoeopathic preparations are Arnica and Phosphorus. Take one tablet every 15 mins for two hours to soothe any lingering soreness.

Other useful advice:

A quick first aid remedy is to put ice cubes on either side of the bridge of the nose. If that doesn’t work put 2 tspns of cider vinegar into a glass of warm water and trickle it into each nostril.
