Whiplash

What you need to know:

It’s common for there to be no immediate pain following a whiplash injury, but any child who might be at risk should be checked out as severe symptoms may follow later.

Once fractures and spinal cord injuries have been excluded, herbs, supplement and natural therapies are of great value.

The most useful Herbs:

Oral anti-inflammatories like:
  • Devil’s claw
  • Ginger
  • White willow
  • Primula
  • Capsicum
  • Birch
  • Black cohosh

Aromatherapy

Essential oils useful for massage or in hot baths are:

Homoeopathy

Homoeopathic remedies include Bryonia, Rhododendron.

The most useful Supplements:

  • Vitamins A, C and E
  • Cod liver oil
  • Green-lipped mussel extract
  • Co-enzyme Q10

Other useful advice:

The child or young person will almost certainly benefit from an early visit to a registered osteopath or chiropractic, who can gently massage or manipulate the area to reduce the chance of long-term problems.
