Cervical Spondylosis

Osteoarthritis is wear and tear of a joint; affected joints become stiff and painful. The cervical spine is subject to wear and tear because of the persistent movement it undergoes (like the lower back). There is narrowing of the discs between the bony vertebrae, and degenerative changes in the bones and joints themselves, with the formation of bony spurs called osteophytes. There may be numbness and tingling affecting the upper limbs, as well as pain and restriction of movement of the neck. This is a condition called Cervical Spondylosis. It may be helped by the use of a collar. In severe cases surgery may be required to prevent further degeneration and damage to the spinal cord.
