Oral Thrush

Oral thrush is caused by infection with the yeast Candida albicans. It causes bright white patches, which when rubbed come away leaving angry red spots, and pain. It is uncommon in healthy adults unless they have diabetes mellitus or are taking medication such as steroids which suppress the immune system. Anti-fungal creams or lozenges are helpful. If it recurs an underlying cause should be ruled out.
