Oral Thrush

What you need to know

By far the most common trigger of Oral Thrush is prolonged treatment with antibiotics. They kill the bad bugs, but they also kill the good, protective ones, which allows yeast organisms to multiply in the mouth.

Oral contraceptives may also cause Oral Thrush in some women. And some asthmatics that use steroid inhalers might also be at risk - they should rinse their mouths with cold water after each inhalation. Anyone prone to Oral Thrush should also change their toothbrush at least every 2 months.

If Oral Thrush is a common problem see a GP or naturopath. Also see the section on Systemic Candidiasis.
