Ulcers

These painful ulcers can make children’s lives a misery, but they respond well to several forms of natural medicine. These herbs can be made into effective mouthwashes. Use fresh herbs – put 1 tbspn into a cup of water, boil for five mins, STRAIN, and leave until warm – or buy tinctures and add 15 drops to a glass of warm water:
In southern Europe, a popular remedy for mouth ulcers is to cut a clove of garlic in half, squeeze until the juices start to run, then rub it on the ulcer. It stings like hell, but it works.

They should also have a good multivitamin and mineral pill every day and, if they’re over 12, a vitamin B complex during periods of stress like exams or changing schools.

It’s also sensible for them to avoid food which might damage the membranes in the mouth – crisps, salted nuts, vinegar, pickles, chilli and any highly spiced food. They probably won’t want them anyway because they’re likely to make the ulcer sting.
