Cracked Lips

What you need to know:

Of course, weather can affect the lips, and although uncomfortable, this is of little medical consequence. Far more seriously, dry, cracked or peeling lips may be a sign of severe dehydration caused by diarrhoea, vomiting, heat exposure, sunstroke, excessive sweating or other underlying medical causes.

In serious instances, the first step should be rehydration and medical investigation of any underlying problem.

But herbal remedies, complementary therapies and supplements can help whatever the cause.

The most useful Herbs:

The most effective herbs to be taken internally are:
  • Lemon balm
  • Marigold
  • St John’s wort
As creams and balms applied directly to the lips, try:
