Sleep Apnoea

Sleep apnoea - sometimes called obstructive sleep apnoea - is characterised by episodes when the child, whilst asleep, stops breathing. Usually they are heavy snorers, and they terminate the period of apnoea (apnoea means no breathing) with a loud snort which partially wakes them. The child almost invariably has large tonsils and adenoids, may be obese, and often suffers from allergic rhinitis (see nose disorders in the head section). Anti-histamines may help; surgery can cure.
