Hepatitis

What you need to know:

Any suspected liver infection or malfunction in the young needs expert diagnosis and treatment. There are supplements and therapies that can help, but this shouldn’t be done without specialist advice. You need to consult a registered naturopath or a member of the National Institute of Medical Herbalists.

The most useful Herbs and Supplements:

  • Liquorice
  • Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) - standardised extracts
  • Globe artichoke, - standardised extracts
  • Vitamin C

Dietary changes that may be beneficial:

With all forms of hepatitis, it’s essential to follow a diet low in saturated fats, refined carbohydrates, sugar, fried foods and all animal fats and include lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, wholegrain, water, vegetable soups and juices and herbal teas. Teenage sufferers should be warned that alcohol will make their condition much worse and that they shouldn’t drink coffee either.
