High Blood Pressure

High blood pressure (described in heart and circulation in the chest cavity section) is a disorder which is thought to be between 20 and 40 per cent determined by genetic make-up. In some individuals in families with a strong history of high blood pressure single gene defects have been identified, but these are rare. In most it is likely that a combination of genes, inducing different disorders in the way in which we control our blood pressure, and how we respond to the environmental factors such as diet, smoking, exercise, stress and alcohol, all of which also influence the level of our blood pressure.
