Otitis Externa

What you need to know:

Children often develop this condition after contact with irritant chemicals. Chlorine in swimming baths is a typical example, but shampoos, conditioners; even the remains of enzymes on towels washed in biological washing powers can cause problems.

Covering the ears with a thin layer of Vaseline may protect them, so might wearing a swimming hat, although the latex in them can cause allergic reactions. If your child’s condition is caused by eczema, see this disorder in the skin section of the child Body Map.
