Appendicitis

What you need to know:

There are no natural remedies or complementary therapies to treat this condition, but this is another ailment which appears to be related to the Western diet, which is so deficient in natural fibre. See constipation in the child section of the Body Maps for advice on healthy eating for bowel problems.

Grumbling appendix is the term often applied to recurrent episodes of unexplained, diffuse pain in the abdomen - especially in children. Many have had their perfectly healthy appendix removed, but still been left with stomach pain. The real reason behind this common misdiagnosis is often abdominal migraine - surprisingly common and seriously undiagnosed in children because they don’t often get the headache, too. See migraine in the child brain section of the Body Maps.
