Cysts

Cysts in the breasts arise as a result of abnormal response of the glandular tissue. They may be multiple and small and affect both breasts, or large and solitary. Drainage produces a greeny yellow liquid and possibly complete resolution of the cyst: blood stained cystic contents may indicate the possibility of an underlying Cancer. Why cysts occur is uncertain; they are more common around about the time of the menopause, and may reflect changes in the structure of the breast tissue itself due to ageing.
