Anxiety

What you need to know:

Every child goes through phases of anxiety and these can normally be dealt with simply by discussing the situation and sorting out underlying problems like school work, bullying or ‘she used to be my best friend but now I hate her’ syndrome. Where a child or particularly an adolescent - starts to exhibit periods of extreme anxiety, depression and hyperactivity in regular patterns, it could possibly be early signs of underlying psychiatric illness, which should be investigated by an appropriate psychiatrist.

Before subjecting children with mild to moderate anxiety problems to strong behaviour-modifying drugs, it’s always worth trying some of the simple natural remedies first.

Calming herbs may help. They can be taken as teas or tablets or used in cooking. As Aromatherapy oils, they can be used for massage or added to the bath:

A daily dose of vitamin B complex could also help.
