Adolescent Anger

What you need to know:

All teenagers go through that I-won’t-do-what-you-want phase, but serious episodes of uncontrolled anger need to be addressed. Various forms of psychotherapy can be useful, including family therapy. However, American research with adolescent offenders has shown that poor diet, a high consumption of junk food, sugar and canned drinks can all have an effect on adolescent behaviour. Professor Schoentaler, a leading criminologist in California, achieved remarkable reduction in aggressive behaviour with teenagers simply by giving them better food and simple multi-vitamin and mineral supplements.

There’s also the distinct possibility these days that sudden mood changes could be caused by drug abuse - sadly, an increasingly common problem in children from primary school age upwards. If you have ANY fear that this is a possibility for your child, call Adfam (a family and friends helpline) on 0207 928 8900. If your kid needs help, get him or her to call The National Drugs Helpline on 0800 776600 so they can put them in touch with someone in your area. This is possibly the only reason you have for invading your child’s bedroom while he or she is out and looking for evidence.
