Bruising

What you need to know:

Every kid gets his or her share of bruises, but if they seem to happen at the lightest touch, you need to see your doctor to rule out any underlying blood disorder. But providing this is simple bruising caused by trauma, these herbs and supplements can help:
  • The homeopathic remedy arnica - both as a gel and as pills
  • Bromelain pills
  • Witchazel compress
  • Comfrey - as pills only
  • St John’s wort pills

Other useful advice:

Ice packs will bring out the bruising and a cabbage leaf poultice will disperse the bruise and reduce any swelling, Remove the thick central vein from a large cabbage leaf, bruise the leaf with a wooden spoon, warm the leaf in a steamer, microwave or low oven, then apply to the bruised area and wrap tightly with a thin cloth. Leave for 15 minutes and repeat as necessary.

The child should also be given lots of pineapple and pineapple juice, which contain special healing enzymes.
