Basic sports nutrition

In order to get the most out of your desired sport or exercise, it is crucial that you feed your body with the right nutrients it needs for energy, muscle repair and recovery. Every athlete or exercising individual has basic nutritional requirements that will enable them to function at their best. The diet needs to contain a wide range of foods to provide a good supply of key nutrients. Basically, most exercising individuals need in addition to plenty of water, approximately 60% of calories from carbohydrate, 20% of calories from protein and 20% of calories from fat (ratio - C:60, P:20, F:20). The balance between protein and carbohydrate can vary depending on the type of sport and individual goals of the athlete. For example, for fat loss carbohydrates are restricted and the ratio is adjusted to C:40, P:40, F:20.
