Pruritus Vulvae

Pruritus vulvae is itching of the vulva (pruritus means itch). While it may be caused by any of the skin conditions which cause itching, such as eczema or dermatitis, it may represent infection with the yeast Candida (a condition we call thrush), by the mite scabies, or by infestation with pubic lice. The treatment is the treatment of the underlying cause. More rarely it is the result of skin conditions such as lichen sclerosis or leucoplakia which, since they may be pre-cancerous, need to be monitored.
