Cancer of the Vulva

Cancer of the vulva is a rare condition mainly affecting the elderly. It is thought to develop in an area of pre-cancerous change called intra epithelial neoplasia, which over a period of time may become invasive. It may cause itching, then develop into an ulcer, typically with a rolled edge. Treatment of the early itchy area using surgery or lasers may prevent development of the cancer; otherwise surgery to remove the whole of the vulva may be required.
