Bartholin's Cysts

Bartholin’s cysts or abscesses arise in Bartholin’s glands, which lie deep to the labia majora, the outer lips of the vulva. The ducts of the glands open between the labia minora and the hymenal remnant. They may become blocked, causing the gland to swell and, if infected, produce a painful abscess. Besides antibiotics this may need surgical drainage. Recurrent attacks may require more definitive surgery, a process called marsupialisation.
