Laryngitis

Laryngitis is inflammation of the larynx and the vocal cords. This produces hoarseness, or complete loss of voice. There may be pharyngitis too, so that we suffer from a sore throat as well as loss of voice, but often laryngitis occurs alone. While the majority of cases are due to viral infections, sometimes infection by a bacterium may be involved and therefore treatment with antibiotics will help.
