Epididymal Cysts

Epididymal cysts are swellings which arise from the epididymis, the tube at the back of the testis which leads to the vas deferens. Since the epididymis lies behind the testis, so do the swellings (unlike the hydrocele, which lies in front of it). The reason why they occur is unknown, and usually they require no treatment unless there are large enough to cause either embarrassment or discomfort, in which case they can be drained. Surgical removal of a cyst, as it is part of the pathway of sperm from the testis to the penis, may impair fertility.
