Pyloric stenosis

Pyloric stenosis is spasm or stricture of the sphincter between the stomach and the duodenum. It may be congenital, when it presents with projectile vomiting and can be felt through the wall of the infant stomach during a feed, or in the adult it may be the result of chronic ulceration, when it presents with the vomiting of food ingested more than 24 hours previously. In both cases surgery may be required.
