Nail Disorders

What you need to know

The actual cause of this condition is still unknown. Conventional treatment mainly focuses on the symptoms associated with the lungs caused by abnormalities in the lymphatic. This involves using drugs to improve breathing, and antibiotics to help prevent infections, as well as avoiding cough suppressants, tranquillisers and respiratory irritants such as cigarette smoke. Other approaches such as physical therapy may also be used.

Nutritional supplements that could help

There is no conventional treatment for abnormalities of the nails, however some nutritional therapy has proven to be effective at improving the condition of nails:

  • Vitamin E
  • Studies show improvement after several months - 800iu daily

In addition vitamin E can be applied topically to the affected nails by using the oil from capsules, although it can be messy. It may be worth trying a vitamin E cream as a more practical alternative
