Prostatitis
Prostatitis is inflammation of the prostate, usually caused by bacterial infection. It may be acute, with severe pain on urination, a sensation of deep pelvic discomfort, and fever. The urine may contain pus, and on rectal examination the prostate feels boggy and is tender. Chronic prostatitis, where there is low-grade and continuous infection and inflammation of the prostate, usually follows a number of attacks of acute prostatitis. Both conditions require pain relief and treatment of the underlying infection.
