Termination (Abortion)

You may be relieved that an unwanted pregnancy is over, you may have chosen to terminate a pregnancy because the foetus was abnormal, you may have felt pressured into taking this course of action without really wanting to. Whatever the reason, there’s always a risk of depression after such an emotionally traumatic event.

It’s essential that you take time to recover physically. That means not dashing back to work the next day, and having a good, balanced diet, with lots of pasta, wholemeal bread, rice, five portions of fruit a day – particularly pineapple, for its healing enzymes – and lots of fluid.

If you do start to feel depressed, it’s important that you get see your doctor and get professional help. You may also find that the natural remedy St. John’s wort will help – but not if you’re taking blood thinning drugs, immuno-suppressants and some brands of anti-depressants and tranquillizers. As your doctor if you’re not sure.
