Pubic Symphysis Diastasis

Pubic symphysis diastasis describes the situation where the ligaments between the two halves of the pelvic bones, where they join at the front of the pelvis, become softened and allow the bones to move with respect to each other. This can affect the joints at the back of the pelvis - the sacro-iliac joints - so there is pain both at the front and the back, particularly on walking. Bed rest (which can be difficult if you have a newborn baby) together with painkillers and physiotherapy can help the pain, but recovery may take some time.
