Penile Warts

Penile warts are a sexually transmitted disease resulting from infection by the human papilloma virus. Just as infection by some of these viruses predisposes the female to develop Cancer of the cervix, in the uncircumcised male it may predispose to the development of Cancer of the penis. As with warts elsewhere on the body the only available treatment is destruction, using cautery (for example cryo-cautery, freezing with liquid nitrogen) or diathermy (destroying by using heat) or topical agents such as podophyllin. The spread of penile warts is, of course, preventable by the practice of safe sex.
