Balanitis

Balanitis is inflammation of the glans of the penis under the foreskin. It may be acute, often caused by the agent candida albicans - particularly in diabetic men, when it will respond to appropriate treatment - or chronic, when it is called balanitis xerotica obliterans. This can prevent retraction of the foreskin, and thereby proper hygiene. Balanitis xerotica obliterans may require treatment by circumcision, since it increases the risk of developing Cancer of the penis.
