Pancreas

The Pancreas is a gland that lies behind the stomach, and behind the membrane called the peritoneum that lines the abdominal cavity. In the adult the pancreas is about 15 centimetres long and consists of a head, which lies in the curve of the duodenum, a body and a tail which lies towards the spleen, tucked up on the left underneath the diaphragm - the muscle that separates the chest cavity from the abdomen.
