Pancreatic Pseudocyst

Pancreatic pseudocyst occurs as a complication of acute pancreatitis, when the digestive enzymes produce a collection of fluid which lies behind the pancreas and stomach in a space called the lesser sac. Since this is a space without a lining the collection is called a pseudocyst rather than a cyst, but the distinction is rather academic.

Pseudocysts, when they are large, cause persistent pain, and may get infected, requiring surgical drainage.
