Oesophageal Spasm

Oesophageal spasm is a condition where the muscles of the oesophagus contract vigorously without the stimulus of swallowing. The contraction is uncoordinated and may be prolonged. It can be provoked by acid reflux, but usually the cause is unclear. The pain may be severe, radiate through to the back, and mimic a heart attack.
