Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease

Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) is a condition where there is laxity in the sphincter at the bottom of the oesophagus which allows reflux of stomach contents into the gullet. Virtually all infants suffer from GORD, causing re-gurgitation of feeds. The symptoms, if severe (and they often distress the parents more than the child) can be helped by agents that thicken the feeds.
