The Oesophagus, or gullet, is a tube about 20 - 25 centimetres long that runs from the larynx to below the diaphragm (the muscle which separates the chest from the abdomen), where it enters the stomach. It is made up of two layers of muscle, mucous glands and a lining of mucous membrane.
