Nose

The Nose is the most prominent part of our face, and is positioned so that it can fulfil its 3 functions - protection of the lower airways, breathing, and smelling - with maximum efficiency.

The outer part of the nose consists of the 2 nostrils, made of cartilage covered by skin, separated by the nasal septum that runs between them. The inner part of the nose is bony with a rich blood supply, which helps to warm the air as we breathe. The upper third of the nose is lined by different cells: the olfactory cells, which are responsible for our sense of smell.
