Vertebro-Basilar Insufficiency

Vertebro-Basilar insufficiency is a condition affecting older patients where there is thickening of the vertebral artery. When the head is tilted backwards the vertebral artery gets compressed. If it is already narrowed, the blood supply to the back of the brain becomes impaired, and we become dizzy. This is why some elderly people dislike looking upwards, so don't take books from high shelves in libraries.
