Laryngomalacia

Laryngomalacia is a condition where the epiglottis, the structure that guards the entrance to the larynx, and which closes over it when we swallow to stop food entering the lungs, flops over it when the infant breathes in, producing noisy breathing called stridor. It usually resolves as the infant grows. More rarely stridor may be caused by a mass of blood vessels, called a haemangioma, affecting the larynx, which may require treatment.
