Branchial Cyst

Branchial cysts are swellings in the side of the neck which appear at the front edge of the muscle which runs from the breastbone to the back of the ear (the sternomastoid muscle). They are remnants of developmental structures which should have been reabsorbed. Sometimes rather than a cyst there is an opening - a fistula - which discharges. A surgeon might be of assistance.
