Meralgia paraesthetica

Meralgia paraesthetica is a condition where there is numbness and tingling overlying the front of the thigh as a result of compression and entrapment of the nerve - called the lateral cutaneous nerves of the thigh in the groin. It's a common consequence of obesity.

Trapped nerves which have been subject to pressure which merely bruises them will rapidly recover once the pressure has been removed and the inflammation settles down. Those which have been severely damaged may have to regenerate, which occurs at a rate of a 1-2mm a day. It would take a long time to grow from the lower back to the little toe.
