Bell's Palsy
What you need to know:
There are no natural remedies or alternative
therapies to cure this condition, but large doses of vitamin B complex, pinebark
extract and flaxseed oil (3-5grams) may help to heal the damaged
nerves.
In addition 250-500mg of magnesium and
50-100mg of vitamin B6 may help.
Acupuncture can also stimulate the nerve supply.
Other useful advice:
All forms of motor nerve damage cause wasting of the muscles which they supply,
but remedial exercises can keep your facial muscles toned and it’s important
to start them as soon as possible.
- Practice these several time a day
in front of a mirror so that you can see your improvement.
- Raise and lower your eyebrows
- Squeeze your eyes shut
- Wink with alternate eyes
- Frown
- Pucker the lips
- Wrinkle the nose
- Pout
- Smile
- Push the corners of your mouth
down
- Purse the lips and blow out your
cheeks
- Suck in your cheeks
- Try to waggle your ears
- Using a large plastic straw, practice
sucking up liquid and blowing bubbles through the straw into a glass of water.
Even if you can’t do all of these exercises,
just trying them is good for the muscles.
