What you need to know

These painful ulcers respond well to several forms of natural medicine.

The most useful Supplements:

In addition to a good multivitamin and mineral, if you get ulcers regularly, it’s worth taking extra of the following:

  • Vitamin A

30,000iu per day

  • Vitamin B complex

10mg to 100mg of the major B vitamins

  • Vitamin C with Zinc

100mg /10mg to 20mg - combined in a lozenge

  • Vitamin E

As a mouthwash - 1 tablespoon into a cup of boiling water, leave till warm!   As a tincture - add 15 drops to a glass of warm water.

  • Cloves

As a mouthwash - 1 tablespoon into a cup of boiling water, leave till warm!   As a tincture - add 15 drops to a glass of warm water.

  • Golden seal

As a mouthwash - 1 tablespoon into a cup of boiling water, leave till warm!   As a tincture - add 15 drops to a glass of warm water.

  • Marigold

As a mouthwash - 1 tablespoon into a cup of boiling water, leave till warm!   As a tincture - add 15 drops to a glass of warm water.

  • Raspberry leaves

As a mouthwash - 1 tablespoon into a cup of boiling water, leave till warm!   As a tincture - add 15 drops to a glass of warm water.

  • Rosemary

As a mouthwash - 1 tablespoon into a cup of boiling water, leave till warm!   As a tincture - add 15 drops to a glass of warm water.

  • Sage

As a mouthwash - 1 tablespoon into a cup of boiling water, leave till warm!   As a tincture - add 15 drops to a glass of warm water.

Other herbs that may help include:

It’s also sensible to avoid food which might damage the membranes in the mouth - crisps, salted nuts, vinegar, pickles, chilli and any highly spiced food. You probably won’t want them anyway because they’re likely to make the ulcer sting.

Traditional remedies:

In southern Europe, a popular remedy for mouth ulcers is to cut a clove of Garlic in half, squeeze until the juices start to run, then rub it on the ulcer. It stings like hell, but it works.
