Leukoplakia

Leukoplakia is the name given to white patches on the mucous membrane which, unlike thrush, cannot be scraped away. Some of these are caused by friction from such things as ill-fitting dentures, or as the result of chronic smoke exposure. If the smoker stops smoking than the changes may disappear. If not there is a possibility they will develop into a cancer of the mouth.
