Iron Deficiency

Iron deficiency produces changes in the both the colour and the surface texture of the tongue and inflammation at the sides of the mouth. The tongue becomes smooth, pale and painful, the angles of the mouth become sore and cracked - a condition called angular stomatitis. These conditions respond to treatment with Iron supplements.
