reasons given above, DVT has been in the news a great deal recently because
of the high risks of this serious problem developing on long-haul air flights.
But this isn’t a new condition; it has been well known among those with an interest
in aviation medicine for many years.
DVT isn’t only associated with flying, however. It doesn’t matter if you travel
by car, coach or train, sitting for more than four or five hours without movement
increases the risk of thrombosis. It’s true, however, because of pressurisation
and dehydration, the risks are greater when flying.
