Reye's Syndrome

Reye’s syndrome is a condition involving fatty infiltration and inflammation of the liver and disturbance of brain function, with possible liver failure, whose cause is unknown. It usually occurs during the end of a viral infection. A number of different viruses have been involved, and therapy with aspirin has been implicated. For this reason aspirin is contraindicated in children under the age of 12 in the UK.
