Wilms Tumour
Wilms tumour, or nephroblastoma, is the most common intra abdominal tumour of childhood, and accounts for 20 percent of all childhood malignancies. It usually appears before the age of five, and is uncommon after the age of 10. It arises from embryonic renal cells, is associated with a chromosomal abnormality and may be familial. In rare cases it may be bilateral. In some children it may simply be an incidental finding of a mass arising in one flank, while in others it may be associated with fever and pain. Treatment involving surgery and chemotherapy may be curative.
