Urethral Syndrome

Urethral syndrome is a condition where there are the symptoms of cystitis occurring frequently but no bacterium is ever found in the urine. This may be because there is an exaggerated response to very low levels of bacteria, or because of chemical irritation of the urethra, or because of traumatic irritation during intercourse or foreplay. Despite the fact that no bacteria are found it often responds to antibiotics, and attacks may be lessened by a course of oestrogen cream applied to the urethra.
