Giardiasis

Giardiasis is infection of the small bowel by the agent giardia lamblia which is present in contaminated water supplies both in the tropics and in Europe. It commonly resides in the duodenum and upper small bowel, and may be a cause of chronic diarrhoea, malabsorption and weight loss. Antibiotic treatment will be necessary to eradicate infection.
